Higher Education Compact to strengthen collaboration and drive regional growth

A new Higher Education Compact has been signed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and higher education institutes in York and West Yorkshire.

The Compact represents a commitment between the region’s higher education institutes (HEIs) and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to work together to stimulate inclusive economic growth, drive innovation, and enhance social and environmental well-being.

Yorkshire Universities (YU) will play a convening and representative role to support the collective engagement of the region’s higher education sector to deliver the objectives of this Compact. In addition, YU will bring together the complementary capabilities of its diverse membership and facilitate collaboration towards the delivery of the shared priorities in the Compact.

The formal partnership agreement has been signed by vice-chancellors from YU’s member institutions, including Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Trinity University, Leeds Conservatoire, Leeds Arts University, University of Leeds, University of York and York St John University.

Speaking on the launch of the Compact, YU Executive Director, Dr Peter O’Brien, said:

This new Compact with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority represents a unique opportunity to harness and galvanise the distinct capabilities of one of the largest Higher Education eco-systems in the country to help drive innovation, increase educational opportunities and business growth, improve skills, and attract new national and international investment into the region.
