Three members of Yorkshire Universities join Defence University Alliance to strengthen skills and research

Three Yorkshire Universities member institutions, the University of Huddersfield, the University of Sheffield and the University of York, have become inaugural members of the new Defence Universities Alliance.

The Defence Universities Alliance (DUA) identifies universities with relevant expertise in teaching, research and innovation that are committed to working closely with Government to help build critical skills and support the UK’s future defence capability.

Yorkshire Universities is supporting its member institutions as they work with the Yorkshire Regional Defence & Security Cluster (YRDSC), which launched in June 2026. The Cluster is supported by the Ministry of Defence through the UK Defence Innovation and is backed by all four Combined Authorities in Yorkshire. YU will take an active role in building engagement between the DUA and the YRDSC.
